Our Story

The idea for Martha's On Madison was born in November of 2020, just shortly after our daughter Sloane was born. We were watching commercial spaces slowly empty in our beautiful village as a result of the pandemic. Then 3 Madison Street came up for rent. It had been a favorite building of ours for a long time and we couldn't pass up the opportunity to open another business in this village we love so well, no matter the risk given the climate.

My name is Britty and I own MOMs with my husband, Brendan. We also own a bakery cafe in the village of Hamilton called Flour & Salt. We are lovers of great food and cozy community spaces. Martha's On Madison is named after my grandmother, who I never had the chance to meet but to whom I am often compared. She was married to my grandfather, John, one of my greatest friends and role models, who died in September of 2019. I could think of no better way to honor his memory than to run a small business in the name of his beloved wife. In a wonderful instance of serendipity, Martha is also the name of Brendan's stepmother's mother, a woman who from all accounts was the embodiment of kindness. There is good fortune in Marthas!

At MOMs, we sell a curated selection of specialty groceries, cheese, meats, pies, and kitchen tools that we have discovered during our tenure in the food service industry. We also operate a full-service tavern on the other side of the building that offers four fresh taps, bottles and cans, a curated wine selection, and expertly-made classic cocktails.

Hey friends. Britty and Brendan here.

We’ve got some big news to share: MOMs will be closing permanently, with our last day of service on Saturday, July 26.

It probably goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway - this wasn’t an easy decision. The last four years at 3 Madison Street have been incredible, and that’s thanks in large part to our amazing staff, who made MOMs the warm, welcoming space it’s been. And, of course, it’s thanks to you, our community, for showing up, supporting us, and loving MOMs so well.

We’ve learned a lot from running this business, and maybe the most important lesson has been about how we spend our time, energy, and intention. Many of you know we also run Flour & Salt here in the village, which is often bursting at the seams from open to close with sandwich, coffee, and pastry loving friends. Between managing multiple locations and staying involved in several community efforts, it’s been a full plate for a long time.

And to be totally honest? We’re ready to have more time together - just Britty, Brendan, and the very spunky five-year-old who moved in with us in 2020 and and just positively refuses to move out. 😉

This is just the first of a few announcements. We’re planning some closing celebrations in July and will share more details both here and at the bar. In the meantime, come hang out, spend time with our amazing staff, and enjoy a few last drinks with us. We’ll be open Wednesdays through Saturdays this summer.

With love and gratitude,

Brendan and Britty
